New research suggests levonorgestrel IUDs are successful in treating adolescents with HMB and AUB.
A new study evaluated adolescents age 8 to 19 years and found that the levonorgestrel intrauterine device (IUD) is successful in controlling abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and suppressing menses. Of the patients studied, all used IUDs for contraception, management of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), and/or menstrual suppression.
